The Parish Council have received the following update from Staffordshire County Council.
New Road
The current work outside the Shell garage is necessary to install ducts and pipes for future power, broadband and energy supply needs for housing and industry in the area, as well as integrating the carriageway into the approach to the new A50 roundabouts.
But it will be completely reopened to all vehicles for one weekend from 6pm on Friday, November 16th until 9.30am on Monday, November 19th.
The reopening coincides with overnight closures of the A50 (more details below) and we do not want the A50 and New Road closed at the same time.
On Monday, November 19th the New Road roadworks will be reinstated in the same place outside the Shell garage, not before 9.30am, and continue until Friday, November 30th, with the same diversions as before.
A50
The A50 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, for three nights on Friday, November 16th, Saturday, November 17th, and Sunday, November 18th to fully incorporate the slip roads after the recent bridge demolition. On the Saturday and Sunday, between 5.30am and 8pm the inside lanes will be closed in both directions to protect the work done overnight.
The full overnight closures will be between the A521 roundabout at Blythe Bridge and the B5030 roundabout at Uttoxeter.
The diversion route will be the same for vehicles travelling in both directions. From the east, traffic will be diverted northwards from the A50 at Uttoxeter on to the B5030 for a few hundred yards to the roundabout with the A518. Traffic will turn right there, cross back over the A50 along The Dove Way and continue on the A518 clockwise around Uttoxeter and follow the road towards Stafford. Vehicles will then follow the A51 and A34 towards Stoke-on-Trent, before joining the A500 and then the A50 to Blythe Bridge. The route is reversed from the west.
A522 north of the A50
After New Road has permanently reopened by the Shell garage, the A522 is also scheduled for complete closure north of the A50, between the new roundabout and JCB World Parts Centre, from 8pm on Friday, November 30th to 5.30am on Monday, December 3rd.
Pedestrian and bicycle access between Uttoxeter and JCB will be maintained throughout the weekend, but all other traffic will be diverted while the new permanent section of the A522 is tied in with the existing carriageway. Travelling from Uttoxeter, traffic will join the A50 at the new junction, continue to Blythe Bridge and take the A521 to Tean and then the A522 towards Lower Tean and Checkley. Travelling to Uttoxeter the route is reversed.
