Homes for Ukraine scheme

Dear Residents

We have been provided with the following information:

The UK government has launched the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme to offer a lifeline for those forced to flee their homes. The scheme will enable individuals, charities, community groups and businesses to volunteer accommodation and provide a route to safety for Ukrainians, and their immediate family members forced to escape their homeland.

In the first phase of the scheme, sponsors will need to have a named person whom they wish to sponsor. This could be a friend, someone they are already connected with, or it could be someone they have been linked with by a charity, faith group or other organisation.

The visa application route will open on Friday 18th March for Ukrainians (and immediate family members) who already have named people willing to sponsor them.

If you would like to be a sponsor but do not know anyone personally fleeing Ukraine, you can also submit an ‘expression of interest’ to receive updates and more information on how to apply.

To be a sponsor you will need to be able to offer a home, such as a spare room or a separate residential property for at least 6 months. Sponsors should not charge rent but can receive an optional ‘thank you’ payment of £350 per month (per residential address) from the government in return for accommodating one or more household for up to 12 months.

This payment will be tax free for individuals and will not affect benefit entitlements.

People arriving under this scheme will be able to:

• Live and work in the UK for up to three years
• Access healthcare, benefits, employment support, education, and English language tuition

If you would like to be a sponsor, please read the further information and FAQs section for full details before registering your interest in the scheme:
